The village
Ana, Beirã, with roots in Vila do Touro. David, from Alentejo, with roots in Pias. Both in love with this village. They make it their refuge, for its tranquility, for the freedom it conveys, for the genuineness of the people and the affection with which they are always received.
The taste for travel, meeting friends, architecture, restoration of old pieces, associated with the practical and dynamic side and a taste for both nature and outdoor activities gave rise to this project!
The two were joined by another Ana, who also accompanies the entire process of our guests' stay, with total dedication and sympathy and who makes the house shine, respecting all hygiene and safety standards.
Villa Tauria is part of the village of Vila do Touro, one of the five medieval towns in the Municipality of Sabugal, in the heart of Beira Alta, with more than 800 years of history, with traces that go back to Pre-History, the Roman period and at the Manueline period. It is on the route of the historical villages of Portugal, about 20 km from Sortelha and less than 1 hour by car from Serra da Estrela.
Take a historical tour of the village, on foot or by bike, and appreciate the old stone houses, typical of the region, one of which built on top of a large rock – Casa do Barroco – also belonging to Villa Tauria.
Discover its historical heritage where the walls, the Gothic Arch of the old military fort (Castle of Vila do Touro) stand out, the board games designed in stone, the Manueline windows and the pillory, the Roman fountains, the Church Main, the chapels of Nossa Senhora do Mercado, São Sebastião and S.Gens, the crosses and the graves excavated in stone.
In the village, be surprised by the various specialities with mushrooms, sausages and grilled meat, prepared at the Boletus Restaurant and enjoy the mystical sunset and an endless starry sky in the chapel of S.Gens.
Although sparsely inhabited, the welcome from the villagers is warm and take the opportunity to pick up fresh bread from the baker outside our house.
For those who love mountain biking and hiking, there are marked routes and trails in the village and the region, some with the Côa River as the backdrop. Enjoy a walk through the countryside and take the opportunity to see the curious granite rocks with different shapes.
